SHARP DEVELOPMENT RESULTS IN SUCCESSFUL SMALL BOAT STABILISATION DEVICE

Sharp Concept's ability to work closely with their clients and develop almost any project idea into a workable product has helped Hamilton company Dolphin Aqualisers NZ Ltd successfully launch an innovative new small boat stabiliser.

Currently drawing interest from both sides of the Tasman, the new Dolphin Aqualisers significantly improve the stability and safety of small aluminium boats, sized 4m to 6m, by dramatically reducing the vessel's ability to pitch and roll. In an emergency the aqualisers can also be easily unclipped from the boat and used as additional floatation devices.

Ross Fuller, managing director of Dolphin Aqualisers NZ Ltd, says he initially began working on the aqualiser idea to try and stop his wife getting seasick. He soon discovered that attaching lengths of PVC piping on each side of his own aluminium boat not only solved the seasickness problem, but also made the boat more stable and safe to move about in.

Ross knew his idea had huge commercial potential, but he was unsure of how to cost-effectively develop the aqualiser into a marketable product. His wife Lorraine made it easy for him, by setting up a meeting with Sharp Concepts. "The first thing they did, for which I am extremly grateful, was to help me patent my idea", Ross says.

Once the idea was protected, Sharp Concept's worked closely with Ross to finalise the design of the Dolphin Aqualisers, which consist of two tough UV-resistant roto-moulded PVC floats, and several innovative injection moulded plastic components that attach them to the boat.

"The design and development of the injection moulded componentry was done almost entirely by Sharp Concept's," Ross says. "The Dolphin Aqualiser is extremly rugged, it looks nice and I've been told several times that it is a really professional piece of equipment."

Ross now regards Sharp Concepts as an extension of his own company, and attributes much of his product’s success to the close working relationship he has enjoyed with them.

Sharp Concept's Managing Director, Jeff Sharp says, "The Success of Dolphin Aqualisers highlight's the importance of us being able to understand a product completely and become part of the design process at an early stage. That way we can ensure that the products and machines we design and develop for our clients will always meet their specific requirements."

Whatever your requirements Sharp Concepts can assure you of a sharp result.
