SMART DESIGN PRODUCES REVOLUTIONARY DISPENSING BOTTLE
 Sharp Concepts ability to take an initial idea and crystallise it into a viable product proposition has enabled a Tauranga company to produce an innovative dual cavity bottle, which is already attracting strong global interest from several industry sectors.
Currently in the final stages of being commercialised, the new patent pending product features a revolutionary push button dispenser at the base of the bottle. The dispenser allows a premeasured amount of active ingredient stored in the lower cavity of the bottle to be easily released into the top cavity of bottled water or other liquid when needed – potentially enabling the convenient and controlled mixing of almost everything from live vaccines and medications to chemical formulas and dyes.
According to Alisdair Pearce, Managing Director of Tauranga-based SJI Ltd, international feedback has clearly suggested that the new dual cavity bottle has quite considerable market potential for a range of different applications, and discussions are already underway with major global players in three industry sectors.
Alisdair says, “What we have come up with is a highly marketable method for dispensing a set amount of active ingredient in tablet, powder or liquid form into a larger bottle of liquid. However, it’s taken us four years and a lot of input from Sharp Concepts to get here.”
SJI’s original idea was to have the dispenser at the top of the bottle, but the resulting design proved to be too complex to commercialise. With the help of the Sharp Concepts design team, a new production method was developed utilising custom built propriety technology and the extensive plastic moulding capability of Sharp Concepts sister company, ES Plastics.
The new dual cavity bottle is now available in three different shapes that can be easily assembled and filled.
Alisdair says, “Sharp Concepts have been our commercial partner for the past 24 months, and have played a huge role in helping us sort out licenses and patents. As for the product development, we have been driving it but we couldn’t have done it without the expertise of the team at Sharp Concepts. We simply came up with the ideas and told them to make it work – and they did.”
