SMART INNOVATION LEADS TO INCREASED EXPORT DEMAND
 Sharp Concept’s ability to develop innovative new versions of existing successful products has enabled Milfos International Ltd to increase their export sales with a new large capacity, milking machine claw.
Already in big demand from dairy farmers in South Africa, the new iC330 claw was specifically designed to meet the needs of high yielding, fast milking animals by incorporating a high volume 330ml bowl. The elliptical shaped bowl is ergonomically designed and ensures the new product can be easily handled and attached to the cow for milking.
According to Milfos director, Jamie Mikkelson, although the claw looks deceptively simple in design it required some complex tooling to produce the components, including a `moulded in’ stainless steel insert.
He says, “There was a whole range of design objectives we wanted to achieve. Unlike the many bulky claws on the market this size, ours had to be lightweight, feel small in your hand, and be narrow enough to be easily fitted through the back legs of a cow.”
By utilising the latest Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, Sharp Concepts helped ensure that the design objectives were met. Milfos were able to view and approve the detailed 3d CAD models on screen well before production started. This virtual model making helps eliminate issues that are often missed with traditional design methods.
Jamie says the resulting new claw has already been extremely well received in the marketplace and is in full production for the coming season.

In fact Milfos, which previously traded as Milka-Ware New Zealand, claims the revenues from the very first product Sharp Concepts ever produced for them went a long way to helping build their business.
