SHARP INNOVATION PRODUCES SMART TRAILER BRAKING SYSTEM

Innovation, advanced technology, and the ability to draw on an extensive range of industrial capabilities has enabled Sharp Concepts to design and develop a revolutionary new recreational trailer braking system called Sens-a-Brake.

Commercially released September 2000, Sens-a-Brake is a unique electro-hydraulic driver-activated braking system which promises to significantly improve the towing safety of many transport trailers, boats, caravans and horse floats.

Sens-a-Brake operates automatically and proportionally when the towing vehicle's brakes are applied, and can be easily fitted to existing trailer hydraulic lines.

Jeff Sharp, the Managing Director of Sharp Concepts, says Sens-a-Brake was specifically designed to meet trailer braking legislation aimed at 2000 - 3500kg trailers. As a result, it is the only trailer braking system expected to fully comply with trailer braking regulations.

Sharp Concepts views Sens-a-Brake as a classic example of the type of highly technical, multi-material project at which they excel.

For instance, Sens-a-Brake is made up of a complex combination of various components including plastics, pneumatics, state-of-the-art pressure sensors, aluminium and electronic microprocessors. It also incorporates several internationally unique patented features such as an emergency panic button to correct trailer sway and an independent mechanical park brake.

"We believe Sens-a-Brake is the safest and most technologically advanced recreational trailer braking system in the world," Jeff says.

And so far, contacts within the New Zealand trailer, marine and caravan industries are tending to agree. According to Jeff, the common response to Sens-a-Brake is `total amazement' that such a highly technical product was designed and developed in New Zealand.
