SHARP PRODUCT DESIGN WINS AWARD AT FIELDAYS

Utilising Sharp Concepts' advanced industrial design and toolmaking expertise has helped Matamata company, Jobe Valves, successfully launch a new product and win a new equipment award at this year's New Zealand national agricultural Fieldays.

Designed specifically for low flow applications - such as water troughs for calves, sheep and beef cattle - the new Rojo Float Valve was developed from its initial concept into a workable product in just over twelve months through a design process which both companies describe as a highly productive joint effort.

"We've been designing valves for about 33 years and the Rojo Float Valve was basically adapted from a concept we've been using for quite a while," says Jobe Valves Marketing Manager, Robin Jobe. "We got Sharp Concepts involved in the final design because they had the expertise and capabilities necessary to effectively design and manufacture the tooling we needed, as well as ensure that the end product met all our required specifications and was able to be manufactured easily. At the end of the day with our combined knowledge and their technology we came out with an excellent result."

Jobe Valves also appreciated being included in the design process all the way through, even down to being able to alter the on-screen CAD CAM design images and taking part in the design team's formal weekly meetings.

According to Jobe Valves' Managing Director, David Jobe, "The team at Sharp Concepts are certainly easy to work with and they really know what they're doing. You could have as much or as little involvement in the design process as you wanted and still be guaranteed of a good result."

Tailoring the design process to suit their individual clients is something Sharp Concepts always works hard to achieve. Jeff Sharp, Sharp Concept's Managing Director says, "Should a client prefer to have only a limited involvement in the design process we are happy to simply take a brief and then get back to them with the final drawings. The choice is the client’s and we will accommodate whatever they want."
